This project addresses the problem of high youth unemployment, and in particular, unemployment amongst matriculants. The project forms part of a larger Western Cape project and aims to provide skills, development and employment opportunities to 9936 unemployed matriculants under the age of 25 over a three year period in the Western Cape. Edunova will work with this project with the specific intent of developing career pathways for young adults wishing to work as school ICT support assistants for both technical and training needs.
OTHER CAREER PATHWAYS BEING PILOTED ARE IN THE AREAS OF:
- Sport, Art & Culture – in-school & after school
- School library support
- Teacher assistants
This project is also aligned to the following provincial game changers:
- After school
THE PROJECT WILL:
test whether this support to schools leads to measurable improvements in school outcomes
- take the CWP into schools; and
- test schools support as a potential part of public employment in South Africa.
Placement of a least 25% of project beneficiaries is the target for the ITEs leaving the programme after 6 months.
The Edunova Learning Centre in Langa is being used as the hub for training and development of the youth and it is here where the deep experience of the Edunova team is being applied to the project.
